“COMUNICACIÓN CON IGUALDAD”, EL SEMINARIO DE LANZAMIENTO DEL CONGRESO MUNDIAL DE MUJERES PERIODISTAS Y ESCRITORAS

Punta Arenas será sede del encuentro internacional

Con la participación de Elia Simeone, presidenta de la Asociación Mundial de Mujeres Periodistas y Escritoras (AMMPE-World); Gabriela Rosero, jefa Oficina ONU Mujeres en Chile; Camila Vallejo, ministra secretaría general de Gobierno y con una nutrida concurrencia de mujeres periodistas y comunicadoras, se desarrolló el Seminario “Comunicación con Igualdad”. 

El objetivo del encuentro fue convocar a periodistas y escritoras y público, en general, a un espacio de reflexión que permitió revelar, profundizar y debatir sobre las brechas y sesgo que aún persisten en el ejercicio del periodismo y en los medios de comunicación, instando a generar una cultura hacia la comunicación con igualdad.

El seminario sirvió de escenario para lanzar en Santiago el XXV Congreso Mundial de Mujeres Periodistas y Escritoras, que se realizará entre el 23 y el 27 de septiembre próximo en Punta Arenas.

La jefa de la Oficina Onu Mujeres en Chile, Gabriela Rosero, destacó la importancia de materializar una comunicación con una mirada consciente, desde los medios. “Este primer Seminario de Comunicación con Igualdad – señaló- es otro paso en el camino de fortalecer el compromiso con un periodismo aliado, un actor indispensable para deconstruir estereotipos, avanzar y consolidar una vida sin discriminación y violencia hacia mujeres y niñas”.

La ministra Camila Vallejo resaltó el rol fundamental que ejercen los medios a través del tratamiento de sus noticias y contenidos y “lo relevante que es la búsqueda de voces femeninas como fuentes informativas para que estén presentes en la comunicación”.  

“Por lo mismo -indicó la vocera de Gobierno- se requiere capacitación en perspectiva de género para quienes están día a día trabajando en los medios de comunicación”. 

La conferencia magistral estuvo a cargo de Nidya Pesántez representante ONU Mujeres en Bolivia. “A mayor reproducción del estereotipo y a menor presencia de las mujeres en espacios de toma de decisiones en los medios y redes, menor posibilidad de contribución en la evolución de la sociedad”, advirtió.

Por lo mismo, instó a periodistas y a la prensa, en general, a asumir un rol más activo y determinante para terminar con esta desigualdad que afecta a la democracia y el buen vivir. 

Luego, los desafíos planteados por Nidya Pesántez fueron analizados y reforzados por las panelistas Carolina Muñoz Castillo, periodista y académica de la Escuela de Periodismo de la Universidad de Chile; y Paula Escobar Chavarría, periodista de CNN y directora ejecutiva de la Cátedra Mujeres y Medios de la Universidad Diego Portales.  Ambas coincidieron en los retos que tienen hoy los y las periodistas, así como también los medios de comunicación para avanzar en igualdad al momento de comunicar. 

Tanto Onu Mujeres como la Asociación Mundial de Mujeres Periodistas y Escritoras (AMMPE World) concuerdan en la necesidad de promover un cambio social, una sociedad más igualitaria, que derribe estereotipos, que abogue por más libertades y derechos para todas las mujeres y niñas, asuntos clave para la igualdad. 

Así lo destacó la presidenta de AMMPE, Elia Simeone, quien señaló que “el ejercicio periodístico puede deconstruir estereotipos de género, por ejemplo, mostrando a las mujeres en roles de liderazgo, en la toma de decisión, a través de la utilización de fuentes sin sesgos y lenguajes que no discrimen, que proponga un tratamiento de las noticias que garantice el respeto a los derechos humanos y que fomente la igualdad de género”. 

AMMPE World y ONU Mujeres en Chile se han propuesto trabajar en forma conjunta estos temas, a través de una serie de acciones y actividades, siendo la primera de ellas el Seminario “Comunicación con Igualdad”, que se realizó en el marco del Mes de las Mujeres 2024.

Asimismo y en el marco del XXV Congreso Mundial de Mujeres y Escritoras, promoverán un análisis crítico sobre el rol de los medios en la construcción de sociedades democráticas e inclusivas y la responsabilidad ética del periodismo en observar los derechos humanos y la no discriminación.

«COMMUNICATION WITH EQUALITY», THE SEMINAR TO LAUNCH THE WORLD CONGRESS OF WOMEN JOURNALISTS AND WRITERS

With the participation of Elia Simeone, president of the World Association of Women Journalists and Writers (AMMPE-World); Gabriela Rosero, head of UN Women Office in Chile; Camila Vallejo, minister secretary general of Government and with a large attendance of women journalists and communicators, the Seminar «Communicating with Equality» was held.

The objective of the meeting was to bring together journalists, writers and the general public to a space for reflection that allowed to reveal, deepen and discuss the gaps and biases that still persist in the practice of journalism and in the media, urging to generate a culture towards communication with equality.

The seminar served as a stage to launch in Santiago the XXV World Congress of Women Journalists and Writers, which will be held between September 23 and 27 in Punta Arenas.

The head of the UN Women Office in Chile, Gabriela Rosero, highlighted the importance of materializing a communication with a conscious look, from the media. «This first Seminar of Communication with Equality – she pointed out – is another step in the path of strengthening the commitment to an allied journalism, an indispensable actor to deconstruct stereotypes, to advance and consolidate a life free of discrimination and violence towards women and girls».

Minister Camila Vallejo highlighted the fundamental role played by the media through the treatment of their news and content and «how relevant it is to seek female voices as sources of information so that they are present in communication».

«For the same reason,» said the government spokeswoman, «training in gender perspective is required for those who are working in the media on a daily basis».

The keynote address was given by Nidya Pesántez, representative of UN Women in Bolivia. «The greater the reproduction of stereotypes and the lesser the presence of women in decision-making spaces in the media and networks, the lesser the possibility of contributing to the evolution of society,» she warned.

For the same reason, she urged journalists and the press, in general, to assume a more active and decisive role in order to put an end to this inequality that affects democracy and good living.

Then, the challenges raised by Nidya Pesántez were analyzed and reinforced by the panelists Carolina Muñoz Castillo, journalist and academic of the School of Journalism of the University of Chile; and Paula Escobar Chavarría, CNN journalist and executive director of the Women and Media Chair of the Diego Portales University. Both agreed on the challenges that journalists, as well as the media, face today in order to advance in equality when communicating.

Both UN Women and the World Association of Women Journalists and Writers (AMMPE World) agree on the need to promote social change, a more egalitarian society that breaks down stereotypes and advocates for more freedoms and rights for all women and girls, key issues for equality.

This was emphasized by the president of AMMPE, Elia Simeone, who pointed out that «the exercise of journalism can deconstruct gender stereotypes, for example, showing women in leadership roles, in decision making, through the use of sources without bias and language that does not discriminate, that proposes a treatment of the news that guarantees respect for human rights and promotes gender equality».

AMMPE World and UN Women in Chile have proposed to work together on these issues through a series of actions and activities, the first of which was the Seminar «Communication with Equality», which was held as part of Women’s Month 2024.

Likewise, and within the framework of the XXV World Congress of Women and Writers, they will promote a critical analysis of the role of the media in the construction of democratic and inclusive societies and the ethical responsibility of journalism in observing human rights and non-discrimination.
